we are children no more
now we play the game of sophistication,
wearing lust on our sleeves because we know, yes,
now we know how to win this game
breaking all of the rules
(lyrics by JEN, published by Edition Amandla/Universal Music Publishing)
Everyone knows that poetry adds romance when delivered to a love one. Every syllable interacts with your lips and tongue as it utters velvet words guided by punctuation, you express your thoughts from the heart. You communicate by speech and as these words travel to your partner. She listens wholeheartedly, gives her a gentle touch of your desire.
Now we imagine, What if poetry is not delivered through your lips but rather by your body movement. Imagine every syllable forces you to gyrate towards your partner. It gives you a sense of motion of highs and lows as every words articulated lets you celebrate the freedom of your body. Let the punctuation aid on how much pressure you do to your partner, from the comma of foreplay, to the curious ellipsis travelling in the midst of your body parts, with an explosion of exclamation, and rest with a period.
We mix this subtle romantic imagination with music. It's a creative copulation of Poetry and Music, where we get to enjoy those sweet words and lullaby. I suggest you listen to JEN. JEN writes her own poetry and have it delivered with a musical background. It is not your typical mix-match of different media. Listen as she delivers her own poetry. My romantically-challenged playful thoughts are easily seduced by her voice. It just gets you into the mood.
You can listen more of her work in JEN / Mellow Dramas. Try not to feel yourself and gyrate while listening to it in public. You might not notice that your clothes are slowly taking off by itself.
Now, you're hot and bothered.
